A pilot's weather briefing, for your drive. Tell it where you're going and when, and ForeDrive checks the forecast at every point along the way, at the hour you'll actually be there, and answers in plain words: good to go, use caution, poor, or dangerous.

Free. No account. No map to wrestle with until you have your answer. Works on iPhone, Android and desktop, right in the browser, and hands off to Google Maps or Apple Maps when you're ready to roll.

ForeDrive briefing for Denver to Salt Lake City in dark mode: the route on a map with a Good to go rating

Two questions, one clear answer

Weather apps show you a city. Navigation apps show you a road. ForeDrive shows you the weather on the road, at the hour you'll be on it, and it only asks what it needs to know.

Where are you driving to?

Type a city and state and pick it from the list. Your starting point fills in with your location; tap Change if you're leaving from somewhere else.

When are you leaving?

Tap one: leave now, later today, tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon, or pick a day and time up to two weeks out.

Read the answer

One rating for the whole drive, the hazards that matter, the best time to leave, the map, and the checkpoints along the way in local time.

Plain words, not weather jargon

Every trip gets one of four ratings. They're tuned to how you travel: a stiff headwind matters on a bike, not in a car; a gusty crosswind matters in a motorhome more than a sedan.

Good to goNo significant weather for how you're traveling.
Use cautionManageable, but plan for it: rain, gusts, heat or cold.
PoorConsider a different time or route: heavy rain, snow, low visibility.
DangerousThunderstorms, ice, damaging winds or extreme heat.

What's in a briefing

Best time to leave

A calendar of departures colored by conditions, 12 hours either side of your plan, or a full week either side with Plus. Tap any square to re-plan around it.

Route options Plus

Up to three routes compared on weather, named by the towns they pass. Take the calm road when the fast one is in a storm.

Checkpoints in local time Plus

Free shows your start, your destination and the roughest stretch. Plus shows every town along the way, every 10 to 20 minutes, with the forecast for the moment you'll pass and the wind relative to your direction.

Official alerts

National Weather Service and Environment Canada watches and warnings that overlap your route and your travel window.

Road sensors and road reports

Measured pavement temperature and ice from state road sensors, plus official reports like "Chains required", on routes where agencies publish them. Shown with the time of each reading.

Radar and four map views

Live radar is one tap away, on a Basic, Detailed, Terrain or Satellite map.

Route profile

Temperature, feels-like, chance of rain and the terrain along the whole drive, so you can see the pass coming.

Road cameras Plus

Live highway camera stills along your route from 29 state, provincial and city agencies across the US and Canada, off until you switch them on.

Traffic-aware arrivals Plus

Arrival times include the traffic that's typical for the hour you'll be on each stretch, with the slow spots called out.

Round trips and arrive-by

Check the way back too, with its own rating and its own best time to head back, or plan backward from the time you need to arrive.

Stops and overnights Plus

Up to 8 stops with waits from 15 minutes to overnight, plus typical breaks that shift your arrival time.

Avoid tolls Plus

ForeDrive plans around toll roads when a toll-free road exists.

Departure reminders Plus

A notification before you leave with a fresh briefing, and another if the rating changes while you wait.

Trip following Plus

Turn it on for a drive, and ForeDrive re-checks the weather on the road ahead every 15 minutes until you arrive, with one short alert only if something changes. No location needed.

Daily commute check Plus

Pick your days and a time, and get the day's rating as a notification before you leave.

What changed Plus

Check a trip again and ForeDrive tells you what's different since the last time you looked.

Drives you've made before

The home screen lists your favorite and recent drives, each already rated for leaving now. Tap one, pick a time, and you have your answer.

A link that opens the same drive for someone else, so the family sees what you see.

Print or share

A one-page briefing to print, save as a PDF, or send to the family before a holiday drive.

Works with your maps

Open the chosen route in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze, or export a GPX file. Planned it elsewhere? Import a GPX, KML, KMZ, TCX or GeoJSON file, or a map app's share link.

Ask ForeDrive

Type "switch to km" or "import a GPX route" and get the answer with a button that does it, and nothing you type leaves your device.

Drive, ride or walk

Cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, bicycles, walkers and hikers each get ratings that fit how exposed they are, on roads or trails.

Made for people who plan ahead

If you've ever checked three weather apps before a long drive, this is for you.

Road trips, RVs and snowbirds

Long days across mountain passes and open plains, where the weather at the far end has nothing to do with the weather at home.

Motorcycles and bicycles

Wind, rain and temperature aren't background noise when you're out in them. ForeDrive rates headwinds, crosswinds and cold for riders.

Families and caregivers

A single page that answers "should Mom drive today?" without a meteorology degree. Print it, text it, or save it.

Small fleets and drivers

A dispatch board with hold-or-go recommendations, vehicle profiles and hours-of-service checks. See ForeDrive Fleet.
